Tawny Frogmouth, Podargus Strigoides

This is a bird native to Australia, Tasmania and New Guinea. It appeared to be a kind of owl to me but apparently isn't (closer to a Nightjar). Anyhow, ) wanted a full frame shot but couldn't get a suitable one due to our relative positions and distracting background.

Yes, I'm aware i promised a non cropped shot in the last post but I was referring to my next butterfly shot (MORE butterflies you ask in despair, yup:D ).

It is interesting that you have thought of an owl first when seeing the bird. I rather think of eagles and falcons and those kind of birds ... it is the beak that does not make it look like an owl to me, though the eye are hinting at an owl ...

About the cropping ... hey, it is your site, so do whatever pleases you. ;) But for this picture again I would have cropped it differently again ... had taken away more of the bottom (at the level where you placed your name) or had left something from the top ... but then I do not know the original picture ... but like this I am missing its talons in the picture ... however, the colour composition is to my liking and again I like the details and in particular the 3D effect of the pic/the bird/the plumage ...

And do not worry about placing more butterflies ... it all depends on the shots ... and honestly, I am prefer animals to flowers ... ;)
